Administrivia
Please follow the simple guidelines when using the lab to ensure it is ready for each teacher.  Remember, there is no one to "watch" the labs during the day so it is up to us to keep it in order for each other.

Logging In
Remember - everyone must log in to use the computers.  The login format is below and depends on when you came to Drake.

Teachers
First letter of the first name followed by the complete last name followed by a period followed by "teach."

Examples:
Jane Doe, a teacher, would log in typing jdoe.teach as her login name.

All Students
Up to the first seven letters of the last name followed by the first letter of the first name followed by a period followed by their grade level.

Examples:
Jane Smith in 9th grade would log in typing smithj.9 as her login name.

If this is the first time a user  has logged in, they should leave the password text box empty.  They will then be asked if they want to change their password.  They should answer yes (y) to this question and type and retype their password when prompted.

If a user has previously entered a password anywhere else on campus at any other time (including past years) they should use that password.

If a user  cannot remember her/his password,  leave Will a message at ext. 3450 telling him the name (and grade level if a student).

Logging Off
Please don't forget to log off your computer when leaving it unattended or after finishing your work.  The most common reason for unauthorized access into confidential files and data occurs as a result of a user leaving the computer logged in and unattended.

Saving Files
Users should save files to their i:\ drives.  This is the drive with their login name on it.  They will then be able to access their files from any computer on campus or, using the Remote Access feature on the Drake Website, from home.  Also, the files on a user's i:\ drive are backed up nightly as a protective measure.
